Benefits

The national agreement between Uber Canada and UFCW Canada means that drivers and delivery people now have access to a host of benefits including professional representation, group discount benefits, and free online training and education opportunities. By accessing UFCW Canada as a representative, drivers and delivery workers also have a strong voice at the table to discuss health and safety issues and other work-related matters, and they are represented by a prominent public advocate for gig workers.

Representation in the Workplace

As the leading private-sector union in Canada’s food, retail, and service sectors, UFCW is the official representative for drivers and delivery people on the Uber platform.

The innovative agreement between Uber Canada and UFCW Canada means that drivers and delivery people can seek UFCW Canada representation when faced with an account deactivation or other account-related disputes with Uber Canada.

Drivers and delivery people on the Uber platform can now choose to be represented by dedicated and professional UFCW Canada staff.

Free Online Training and Education

With UFCW Canada as their official representative, drivers and delivery workers can upgrade their skills and take advantage of free online training and education through UFCW Canada’s cutting-edge online learning platform, webCampus.

webCampus offers hundreds of online courses covering a wide array of topics, such as digital skills, mental health, food safety, and much more. Many of the program’s courses connect workers with the skills required to grow professionally within UFCW Canada’s core sectors and beyond. webCampus courses are also designed so that workers can learn at their own pace – anytime, anywhere, and on any device connected to the internet.

As well, through webCampus’ certificate and partnership programs, workers can earn credits toward college diplomas, university certificates and degrees, and training centre certifications from leading education and training institutions across Canada.

Thanks to the Uber Canada and UFCW Canada national agreement, drivers and delivery people can learn and grow through webCampus. To learn more about UFCW Canada’s free online learning platform, visit the webCampus website.

Improved Health and Safety

As the official representative for drivers and delivery workers, UFCW Canada will be meeting regularly with Uber Canada to raise driver concerns and discuss health, safety, and other issues related to the quality of platform work. In addition, earners in British Columbia can ask for UFCW Canada representation in a special safety appeals process with Uber Canada.

A Leading Voice for Gig Workers

As the leading voice for greater protections, rights, and benefits for gig workers across the country, UFCW Canada is a strong public advocate for gig workers in Canada.

Now that UFCW Canada is the official representative for drivers and delivery workers throughout the country, our union is committed to continuing our efforts in advocating for progressive labour standards that enable app-based workers to build a better life.

If you’re a driver or delivery person on the Uber platform, you can now choose to have labour representation stand up for you, day in and day out, across the country, while at the same time maintaining your ability to work when and where you want.

Additionally, through the Uber Canada and UFCW agreement, Uber Canada and UFCW Canada have agreed to jointly push for legislative standards to cover app-based workers – like minimum earnings standard, a benefits fund, and access to workers’ rights – across the country.
